Specific directions for homeschoolers without access to high school newspaper publication:

The Allstate Foundation would like to give all high school students an opportunity to participate in the Journalism Awards program. If you do not have a newspaper or broadcast station at your high school, there are additional options you can consider. You can write an article about the dangers of texting while driving and have it published in one of the following additional resources:

  1. Your high school's student newsletter; or
  2. Your local community newspaper; or
  3. You can create a flyer with your article and distribute to your high school (with school permission).

Below are additional guidelines for this submission process:

  • You must provide the name and contact information (phone number and email address) of the teacher or school faculty member who approved your story for your school newsletter, local newspaper or flyer.

  • The distribution of the school newsletter and flyer must reach out to the entire school body.
  • If your story is published in the local newspaper, you must work with your teacher/faculty advisor to publicize throughout your school to reach your peers.
  • You cannot receive compensation for writing an article in your local newspaper.
